The SCCA was established in 1998 by a small group of major shopping centre owners and managers who decided they needed a group specifically focused and devoted to their industry needs, particularly in relation to key policy and regulatory issues.
Initially operating as an unincorporated association, the SCCA incorporated as a company limited by guarantee in 2005 and is governed by a Board of Directors, elected by the SCCA’s members.
Since its establishment the following people have Chaired the SCCA:
2022 – Current: Anthony Mellowes, CEO, Region Group
2015 – 2022: Peter Allen, CEO, Scentre Group (owner and operator of Westfield shopping centres)
2011 – 2015: Steven Sewell, CEO and Managing Director, Federation Centres
2008 – 2011: Robert (Bob) Jordan, Managing Director Australia, New Zealand and United States, Westfield Group
2001 – 2008: Andrew Scott, CEO, Centro Properties Group
2000 – 2001: Laurie Brindle, Head of Global Real Estate, QIC
1998 – 2000: Jack Ritch, Managing Director, AMP Capital Investors
Since its formation, the SCCA has expanded to 28 members and includes Australia’s 20 largest shopping centre owners and one independent shopping centre manager, covering ASX-listed companies, funds and family-owned companies.
