Objective:
Where governments intervene to regulate aspects of business and business relationships the regulation should be evidence-based and proportionate to the market failure the regulation seeks to address.
Background:
The Productivity Commission has been tasked with a number of inquiries and reviews which are relevant to the ownership and operation of shopping centres. These include a specific inquiry into the market for retail tenancy leases; as well as inquiries into the retail sector; land use planning; and workplace relations. The SCCA has made submissions to these inquiries, and appeared at public hearings, to ensure these inquiries and reviews have detailed and objective evidence on which policy makers can make rational decisions.
